Instrument 01
Folder Scan
Read a folder layer by layer: what kind of files fill it, which folders are biggest, which files are largest, what nobody has touched in years, and what is probably there twice.
1. Choose a folder
Good places to start: your Downloads, Videos, Pictures, Documents or Desktop folder, or a folder on a second drive. Browsers refuse a whole drive and system folders.
Your browser will ask before it lets this page see the folder. If its prompt says "upload", that is the browser's wording for its folder picker: nothing is sent anywhere. This page reads the names, sizes and dates of up to 400,000 files.

Cleanup list
Suggestions from what the scan found. Check each one yourself in File Explorer or Finder: this site deletes nothing, and only you know what you still need. Keep a backup of anything you cannot replace.
Largest files
| File | Size | Changed |
|---|
Big and untouched
Files of 100 MB or more not changed in the last two years (the date your computer keeps for the last change, not the last time a file was opened).

Likely duplicates
Files of 1 MB or more with the same name and the same size, in different folders. Same name and size usually means the same file, but not always.
Confirming duplicates by their content (a SHA-256 fingerprint worked out in this tab) is part of the Survey Pass ($1.95 a month or $19.50 a year).
Download the lists
Made in this tab from the scan; nothing is sent. Part of the Survey Pass, free during preview.
2. Save the totals to your Space Logbook
Optional. Saving lets you see what grew next time. Only the totals below are sent; the page shows them first.
